This step by step diy project is about 8×8 lean to greenhouse trims plans. This is PART 2 of the small lean to greenhouse project, where I show you how to build the door, the vents and how to attach the trims to the exterior of the structure. Take a look over the rest of my woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration.
When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build lean to greenhouse trims
The first step of the project is to build the rafters for the lean to greenhouse. Mark the cut lines on the beams and then get the job done with a circular saw.
Fit the rafters to the top of the lean to greenhouse. Place the rafters equally spaced and then lock them into place with screws. Drill pilot holes through the rafters before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting.
Fit the 1×2 trims to the front and back of the greenhouse, so you can secure the greenhouse plastic into place tightly. Insert 1 5/8″ screws to secure the trims into place every 8″, along the framing.
Fit the 1×2 trims to the short side of the greenhouse, using the same techniques described above.
Fit the 1×2 trims to the opposite side of the greenhouse, after stretching the plastic. Use 1 5/8″ screws to lock the trims into place tightly.
Fit the 1×2 trims to the top of the greenhouse. Align the edges flush and insert 1 5/8″ screws, so you lock them into place tightly.
Frame the door for the greenhouse from 2×2 lumber. Cut the components at the right dimensions and then lay them on a level surface. Drill pilot holes through the components and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock them together tightly. Make sure the corners are square and align the edges flush.
Fit the greenhouse plastic to the frame and then lock it into place with 1×2 trims. Use 1 5/8″ screws to secure the trims into place tightly.
Fit the door to the opening and then secure it to the frame with hinges. Install a latch so you can lock the door into place tightly.
Build the vent frames from 2×2 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the 22 1/2″ plywood components and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock the frames together tightly. Make sure the corners are square and align the edges flush. Fit the translucent panels to the vents. Alternatively you can use 1×2 trims over the vents, so you can lock the components together tightly.
Fit the vents to the greenhouse. Use hinges to secure the vents to the frame tightly. Moreover, you could install automatic vent openers, so you control the temperature inside the greenhouse.
This lean to greenhouse is ideal if you want to build a shelter for your flowers during the cold days. You can easily attach this greenhouse to an existing building. Take a look over PART 1 of the greenhouse project, where I show you how to build the frame of the lean to greenhouse.
