DIY Project – Wooden Bench with Backrest

From Rik Lawrence,

I made this bench using 4×2 cls timber , it cost just under £60 as I already had the green paint left from another project. Firstly I routered a half round on all the stock noting where the joints were to be made so that it flowed visually. Then I sanded all the parts with 120 grit pads on an orbital sander and assembled as per the instructions.

I then painted the frame in the green and the seat sections in old English cream and the arm rests , I did deviate slightly as I wanted no visible screw heads so I fitted rails to the back uprights and under the seat base so I could screw from behind and below.

I think it looks better without visible screw heads and filling and sanding would have meant masking up and running the risk of the differing paint colours coming into contact with each other. I hope you like the look of it as I think the green and cream are very complimentary colours and have a summery vibe .
