From Dan,

Used your plans to create the planter bench my wife wanted.  I did a board and batten type finish and substituted pressure treated fence panels instead of 1 x 6 PT boards and some of the 1 x 4’s.  Simply ripped them on the table saw.  About the same material but far less costly ($1.25 per board vs $4.97 per board). Also used some old cedar 1 x4’s for the base and not plywood.  I also had 2 2 x4 left over and lots of wasted 2×4 material.  I am not sure where I went wrong.  As someone else suggested do your own measurements and create your own cut list per board.  My cost was about $130 as I had to buy the screws and went with high end brand.
