8 ft Backrest Picnic Table – DIY Project
Â
From Thor,
I decided to combine the plans for your 8ft picnic table and 6th picnic table with backrests. I worked mainly off the plan for the 8th ft table. The only thing I made sure to do different from the 8ft plan was place the legs 5 inches from the edge of the table, as suggested in the plans for the 6ft table, and I used 71.5 inch seat supports for the backrests. The base supports had to be resized, because I used 2×6 boards for the legs, I stead of 2×4, but the remainder of the backrests were constructed using the plans for the 6ft table. I also used two pocket holes for each board in the table top, as well as two at each end of the diagonal braces under the table, so I used more pocket screw than the notes suggested. It looks great, and is super rigid.
I used the following supplies:
- 19 x 2x6x8 pressure treated brown
- 5 x 2x4x8 pressure treated brown
- 38 x 2.5 inch pocket screws
- 24 x 3/8×3.5 carriage bolts
- 24 x 3/8 flat washer
- 24 x 3/8 hex nuts
- 80 x 2.5 inch wood screws
