How to build a simple wedding arbor
*A complete diagram with the two (shape, angles, dimensions) is included in the Premium Plans.
Lay the stakes on a level surface and align them at the bottom end. Add glue to the joints and insert 1 1/4″ screws from both sides, every 8″. Repeat the process for the other side of the triangle arch.
Next, we need to assemble the triangle. Join them together on a level surface. Insert 1 1/4″ screws through the V point, on both sides. Add glue to the joint, as well.
Continue the project by attaching the triangle to the base slats. Center the vertical supports to the base 1×6 boards. Drill pilot holes through the base board and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the arch.
Next, we need to build the braces for the triangle arch. To get the job done we need a compound miter saw. Set the saw at 45 degree miter and 22.5 degree bevel cut. Make the cuts to one end, as shown in the image. Make a simple 45 degree cut to the opposite end of the brace.
Next, drill pocket holes to both ends of the 1×4 braces.
Plumb the triangle with a spirit level and attach the braces to both sides of the arch. Insert 1 1/4″ screws to lock the braces into place tightly.
The compound cut end will sit on the horizontal support of the wedding arch.
Once assembling the wedding arch, you have to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the pocket holes with plugs and then fill all the gaps with filler. Smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper and then apply a few coats of stain / paint to enhance the look of the arch and protect the elements from decay.

This is a free standing arch that is made out of lumber. If it’s windy, you should consider locking the 1×6 base boards to the ground with a few stakes / long screws.
