8 ft Wedding Bench Plans

This step by step diy woodworking project is about 8 ft wedding bench plans. I had a request to design a simple 8 ft bench that can be used for wedding ceremonies, so this is my take. The frame of the bench is built from 4x4s and the top seat is made from 2x8s. I really like this design and I plan to build a few of these for my patio. When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. • A – 4 pieces of 4×4 lumber – 14 3/8″ long LEGS
• B – 2 pieces of 4×4 lumber – 9 3/8″ long, 2 pieces – 14 1/2″ long BRACES
• C – 1 piece of 4×4 lumber – 83″ long STRETCHER
• D – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 83″ long SUPPORTS
• E – 2 pieces of 2×8 lumber – 96″ long SEAT

Building a wedding bench

Building the legs

The first step of the project is to build the legs for the wedding bench. Use a miter saw to make 10 degree cuts at both ends of the legs. Drill pocket holes at one end of the legs, as shown in the diagram.

A-frame-bench

Use 4×4 lumber for the A- frame braces. Make 10 degree cuts at both ends of the legs and drill pocket holes at both ends of the braces. Use 2 1/2″ screws to secure the braces to legs.

Assembling the A frames

Cut the bench supports from 4×4 lumber and attach them to the top of the legs. Use 2 1/2″ screws to secure the supports into place.

Fitting the stretcher

Cut the stretcher from 4×4 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the component, on both sides. Align the edges and make sure the corners are square. Add glue to the joints.

Fitting the seat supports

Use 2×4 lumber for the supports. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock them to the sides of the bench. Make sure the corners are square

Fitting-the-seat-slats

Drill pocket holes along the supports (interior faces) and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the 2×8 bench slats. Center the slats to the frame of the bench.

8 ft Wedding Bench Plans

Fill the holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats of stain over the wedding bench to enhance the look of the project. Apply a few top coats to protect the wood from the elements.
