This step by step diy project is about 8×12 barn shed doors plans. This is PART 3 of the gambrel shed project, where I show you how to build the double doors for the shed. Make sure you read the local codes so you can comply with the legal requirements. Take a look over the rest of my woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration.
When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build double shed doors
First of all, you need to attach the 2×4 jambs around the door openings. Cut the components at the right dimensions and then secure them into place with 2 1/2″ screws, every 8″ along the frame. Make sure the edges are flush, before inserting the screws.
Build the double doors from 2×4 lumber and T1-11 siding. Cut the components at the right dimensions and then lay the trims on a level surface. Fit the door panels, aligning the edges flush. Use 2″ brad nails to secure the panels to the door trims. Insert the nails, every 8″ for a professional result.
Use the pieces that you have cut out in the previous steps as door panels. In this manner you will save a lot of time and money.
Fit the doors into place and secure them into place with hinges. Install a door latch so you can lock the doors into place tightly. Install handles, as well, so you can open and close the doors.
Fit the 1×4 trims to the front of the shed. Align the edges and then secure the trims into place with 2″ brad nails.
Fit the decorative trims to the sides of the barn shed, as well. Use 2″ brad nails to lock the trims into place tightly.
This 8×12 shed is a great addition to any backyard, as it will shelter and organize all your tools. Check out PART 1 and PART 2 of the shed, so you can learn everything you need to know about building the floor, walls and roof for the shed.
