This step by step diy project is about easy diy halloween decorations. Building a several wooden pumpkins for your backyard would really add appeal to it and prepare it for Halloween. You can get the job done in just a few hours, as the project requires basic skills and materials. Align the components at both ends and create rigid joints, by inserting galvanized screws.
When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build a wood pumpkin
The first step of the project is to build the panel for the pumpkin decoration. Therefore, cut 7 pieces of 2×4 lumber at 24″ and lay them on a level surface. Leave no gaps between the slats and align the ends, as shown in the diagram.
Mark the cut lines on the panel, making sure you draw a pumpkin shape. You don’t have to be perfectly accurate when drawing the lines, but make sure they are good enough for your goal.
Cut the slats and smooth the edges with sandpaper. Drill pilot holes through the bottom support and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the slats.
Attach a 1×4 cleat to the back of the slats, in order to secure them together tightly. Leave no gaps between the slats and attach the cleat with 1 1/4″ screws, after drilling pilot holes.
Fill the holes and dents with wood putty and let it dry out for several hours. Use 120-200 grit sandpaper to smooth the surface. Remember that you can adjust the dimensions of the pumpking to suit your needs. Make several of these, changing the color, the shape or the size. The wood pumpkins are ideal decorations for Halloween. Cut a few leafs from 1×4 slats and secure them to the top of the pumpkins with glue.
Top Tip: If you want to enhance the look of the project and to protect the components from decay, we recommend you to apply paint or stain.
