14×14 Gable Pavilion – DIY Project

From Rick,

Followed the directions pretty much to the tee but I will say the rafters were a challenge if you don’t ensure that the center beam is perfect. We used some black braces to give it a more rustic-heavy feel and I opted to use 1x6x16′ boards on the roof to give it a plank look.

I used 7/8″ roofing nails and nothing pushed through the boards. I’m confident the shingles are set using six nails per shingle. I did not add the trim boards as we liked the open feel of the rafter ends. The cost was in excess of 3,500 given wood prices and brackets.

You might not notice them but we also used black angle brackets on the rafters to complete the look. We will add a fireplace, TV, and ceiling fan next.
