From John Cabral, 

For the jamb,the top and each side is made up of 2 pieces of colonial casing butted up to a 1.25″ strip in the middle. the casing is 1×4. the wall is 5″ thick, witch gave me room to get creative. took a day to build and cost about $20 (the moulding was free).
