Building a plant stand with tile tops is an interesting idea, as it will add character to the project. In addition, the tops will be more durable. This modern plant stand is built using just 1x2s and it cost me under 5 $ (not including the 10×10 tiles). I used walnut stain to protect the wood from decay.
