20×20 Shed Doors and Trims Plans

This step by step diy project is about 20×20 shed doors plans. This is PART 3 of the large gable shed project, where I show you everything you want to know about framing the double doors and fitting the trims. Take a look over the rest of my woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration. Remember that you need to select the site for the shed with attention and that you have to comply with a few legal regulations.

When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. How to build a shed doors

Front-doors—large-shed

Build the door panels from T1-11 siding and the trims from 2×4 umber. First build the door frame using pocket screws. Align the trims flush with the door panels and secure them together with glue and 2″ nails.

Diagonal door trims

Cut the diagonal braces and from 2×4 lumber and then fit them to the doors. Use 2″ nails to lock the braces to the door tightly.

Double-door-jambs

Fit 2×4 jambs around the door opening. Align the edges flush and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock the jambs into place tightly.

Fitting the front double doors

Fit the double doors to the front opening. Align the edges with attention and use hinges to secure the doors to the jambs. Moreover you need to attach one latch to the doors, so you lock them into place tightly. Fit handles to the double doors.

Side door

Build the side door in the same manner described above. Alternatively you could buy a door and fit it to the opening. However, I strongly recommend you to buy the door before starting the project, so you can adjust the opening to suit your needs.

Side door jambs

Fit 2×4 jambs around the side door opening. Align the edges flush and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock the jambs into place tightly.

Fitting the side door

Fit the door into place and secure it to the jambs with hinges. Install a latch so you can keep the door locked tightly into place.

Side wall trims

Fit the 1×4 trims to the sides of the shed. Align the edges flush and insert 2″ nails to lock them into place tightly.

Side wall with window trims

Fit the trims to the other sides of the shed, as show in the diagram. Moreover, you need to fit the window into place and then attach the trims.

Front trims

Fit the trims to the front of the shed. Align the edges flush and then insert 2″ nails to lock them into place tightly.

Back wall trims

Fit the 1×4 trims to the back of the shed, as well. Last but not least, you need to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with putty and smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint to the exterior of the shed, so you enhance its look and so you can protect the components from decay.
