by Ovidiu

This step by step diy project is about how to build kitchen shelves. Any kitchen requires many storage space for dishes and for spices, so you have to consider building a really simple shelves unit. Remember that you need to plan everything from the very beginning and you have to make adjustments to the dimensions and to the design, in order to suit your needs.

It is essential to choose the right materials before starting the construction and the assembly of the kitchen shelves. As you will see in the project, you need to choose durable lumber with a nice appearance, such as pine, cedar or redwood. Make sure the components are in a good visual condition and choose professional tools when adjusting their size. Take accurate measurements and join the components with glue and screws. Building kitchen shelves

Building the sides of the kitchen shelves

Building the sides of the kitchen shelves

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the sides for the kitchen shelves. In order to add character to the indoor project, we recommend you to make a curve cu to the bottom of the slats, as in the diagram.

Smooth the cut edges with sandpaper and remove the residues before continuing the project. Repeat the process for the opposite side of the shelves unit.

Next, build the frame of the kitchen shelves, by fitting the rest of the components. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components (except the top). Drill pocket holes along the top edges of the side components.

Make sure the corners are right-angled and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the components, to make sure the bonds are tight and durable.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: In order to protect the lumber from water damage, we recommend you to cover the components with several coats of paint. Place the wooden shelves in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
