Building the frame of the towers

The first step of the project is to build the two towers for the closet organizer. Therefore, cut the components out of 3/4″ plywood and smooth the cut edges with fine-grit sandpaper. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components and secure them to the sides by using 1 1/4″ screws.

Make sure the corners are square and the edges are perfectly flush. Leave no gaps between the components and add glue to the joints.

Installing the bottom support

In order to enhance the rigidity of the structure, we recommend you to fit a 1×2 support to the bottom of the towers, as described in the diagram. drill pocket holes at both ends and secure it to the sides by using 1 1/4″ screws.

Fitting the back to the towers

Continue the woodworking project by fitting the 1/4″ back to the towers. Mark the cut lines on the plywood sheets and get the job done with a sharp circular saw. Smooth the cut edges with fine-grit sandpaper and remove the residues.

Make sure the corners are square, the edges flush one with another and insert screws or finishing nails through the plywood back into the frame of the closet organizer.

Building the partitions

Continue the woodworking project by building the partitions for the bottom section of the closet organizer. Mark the cut lines on the plywood sheets and get the job done using a circular saw and a chisel.

Repeat the process for the other pieces and drill pocket holes along the both sides of the components. Smooth the cut edges thoroughly before assembling them together and securing the to the frame.

Building the shelves

Assemble the partitions together and fit them inside the opening, as described in the diagram. Work with attention and make sure the corners are square. Leave no gaps between the components and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the frame of the towers.

Building the shelves

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to build the shelves that lock the side towers together, using the information described in the diagram. Use 2×2 lumber for the braces and 3/4″ plywood for the shelves.

Mark the cut lines on the lumber and adjust it at the right size. Drill pilot holes through the braces and insert 2″ screws into the shelf. Add glue to enhance the bond of the joints.

Fitting the middle shelves

Fit the shelves between the side towers of the organizer and drill pocket holes along the side edges. Make sure the corners are right-angled and plumb the towers with a spirit level.

Leave no gaps between the components and add glue to enhance the bond. Afterwards, secure the rods under the shelves, as described in the diagram. Work with attention and take accurate measurements.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: In order to protect the lumber from water damage, we recommend you to cover the components with several coats of paint. Place the wooden organizer in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
