Building an end table

Building the legs

Building the legs

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the four legs for the end table. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to cut both ends of the 2×4 lumber at 15 degrees, by using a miter saw.

Smooth the cut edges and remove the residues using a cleaner. Work with attention and invest in high quality materials. Repeat the process for the rest of the table plans.

Fitting the supports

Fitting the supports

The next step of the woodworking project is to attach the supports to the legs of the table. In order to get a professional result, we recommend you to cut both ends of the supports at 15 degrees and to drill pocket holes at both ends.

Fit the supports into place and lock them to the legs by using 2 1/2″ galvanized screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints and make sure there are no gaps between the components.

Fitting the aprons

Fitting the aprons

Lock both sides of the table together by fitting the supports. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports, align them with great care and insert 2 1/2″ galvanized screws into the legs. Make sure the corners are square and the sides are plumb.

Fitting the shelf slats

Fitting the shelf slats

Attach the 1×4 slats to the bottom supports, as described in the image. Place the slats equally-spaced and secure them to the frame by using 1 1/4″ screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints and remove the excess with a damp cloth.

Fitting the tabletop

Fitting the tabletop

Attach the 1×4 slats to the top of the frame. Drill pilot holes through the slats before inserting the 1 1/4″ screws into the frame, in order to prevent the wood from splitting. Place the slats equally-spaced and make sure there are no gaps between the components.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: If you want to enhance the look of the woodworking project and to protect the table from decay, we recommend you to cover the components with paint or stain. Place the table in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
