Cocktail Table Plans

by Ovidiu

This step by step diy woodworking project is about cocktail table plans. If you want to build a small round table for your patio, we strongly recommend you to pay attention to this article and to follow the instructions. Don’t forget that you should take a look over the rest of the related projects, as there are so many other things that you could build in just a few days.

Make sure you choose quality lumber, such as pine, cedar or redwood. Moreover, we recommend you to check if the slats are in a good condition and perfectly straight. Gather all the tools and materials before starting the actual construction, as to save time and money. Mark the cut lines with great care, if you want to cut the components at the right size. Pre-drill the components before inserting the screws to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

Building the frame of the table

Building the frame of the table

The first step of the project is to build the frame of the cocktail table. As you can notice in the image, we recommend you to build the components out of 2×2 lumber.

Top Tip: Take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components to the right dimensions. Drill several pilot holes through the wooden components before inserting the galvanized screws.

Th next step of the woodworking project is to cut the slats at the right size and to lock them to the supports, as shown in the diagram. Drill pilot holes at both ends of the slats before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting.

Top Tip: Smooth the cut edges with fine-grit sandpaper before attaching them into place. Add waterproof glue to the joints, if you want to create a rigid frame for the tabletop.

Attaching the tabletop suport

Attaching the tabletop support

Attaching the supports to the top of the frame is a straight-forward task, but you still need to pay attention to several aspects. Therefore, we recommend you to cut the ends of the support in a decorative manner and to check if they are level, by using a spirit level.

One of the last steps of the project is to attach the tabletop to the supports and to lock it into place with screws. In order to get the job done in a professional manner we recommend you to lay the slats on a level surface, mark the cut line and get the job done with a jigsaw.

Top Tip: Lay the frame on top of the slats. Drill pocket holes through the supports and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the slats. Add waterproof glue to the joints, if necessary.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: In order to protect the lumber from water damage, we recommend you to cover the components with several coats of paint. Place the cocktail table in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
