Building a bar table

Building the sides of the bar table

Building the sides of the bar table

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the sides of the bar table. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to build the legs of the table out of 2×2 lumber, while the aprons should be made out of 1×4 lumber.

Cut the components at the right size and lock them together with 1 1/4″ screws and waterproof glue. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the aprons and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the legs.

Assembling the frame of the bar table

Assembling the frame of the bar table

Continue the project by assembling the frame of the table together, as shown in the image. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the aprons and lock them to the legs with 1 1/4″ galvanized screws.

Make sure the corners are right-angled before fitting the support to the middle of the bar table. Plumb the legs of the table with a spirit level and check if the aprons are perfectly horizontal. Add glue to the joints, in order to enhance the rigidity of the table.

Attaching the bottom supports

The next step of the woodworking project is to attach the supports to the bottom of the bar table. Cut the supports at the right size and lock them to the legs with galvanized screws.

Last bit not least, we recommend you to fit a 2×4 support between the sides of the table, as shown in the image. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the support before inserting the 2 1/2″ screws into the side components.

Attaching the tabletop

Attaching the tabletop

Attaching the tabletop is one of the most interesting and straight-forward steps of the woodworking project, as you just need to align the sheet at both ends and to secure it into place with screws.

Top Tip: Drill pocket holes through the supports and insert the screws into the 2’x4′ project panel. Add waterproof glue to the joints, if you want to create rigid joints.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: In order to protect the lumber from water damage, we recommend you to cover the components with several coats of paint. Place the wooden table in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
