2×4 Full size Bed Frame Plans

This step by step diy project is about 2×4 full size bed frame plans. I have designed this simple bed frame so you can build one by yourself, using only 2×4 lumber. This is a full size bed frame that you can build in one afternoon. This article features detailed instructions about building a basic bed out of 2×4 lumber. Make sure the design of the desk matches the style of the rest of the bedroom furniture.

It is essential to choose the right materials before starting the construction and the assembly of the bed. As you will see in the project, you need to choose durable lumber with a nice appearance, such as pine, cedar or redwood. 2×4 Full size Bed Plans

Headboard-frame—2×4-frame

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the panel for the headboard. As you ca easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to use 2×4 lumber for the frame. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal supports and secure them to the cleats by using 2 1/2″ galvanized screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints and make sure the edges are flush one with another. Check if the corners are square and add glue to the joints.

Next, fit the vertical supports to the footboard frame. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the slats and then secure them into place with 2 1/2″ screws. Place a piece 1 5/16″ between the slats to create even gaps.

Fitting the top trim to the headboard

Fit the 2×4 trim to the top of the footboard. Center the trim to the top of the headboard and then secure it into place with 2 1/2″ screws. Add glue to the joints.

Footboard frame

The next step of the project is to build the footboard. Start by assembling the frame. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal supports and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock everything together tightly. Add glue to the joints and make sure the corners are right-angled.

Fitting the slats to the footboard frame

Next, attach the 2×4 slats to the footboard frame. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the slats and then lock them to the frame with 2 1/2″ screws.

Fitting the top trim to the footboard

Next, you have to attach the 2×4 trim to the top of the footboard. Center the trim and then lock it into place with 2 1/2″ screws. Add glue to the joints and leave no gaps between the components.

Attach the 2×4 cleats to the bed frame. Align the cleats to the frame, drill pocket holes and then insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock them into place tightly.

Fitting the bottom slats

Attach the 2×4 slats to the cleats, as shown in the plans. Place a block of 1″ between the slats to create even gaps.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: In order to protect the lumber from water damage, we recommend you to cover the components with several coats of paint. Place the wooden bed in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
