DIY Project – 12×16 salt box shed
From Nate Martin,
The plans were very helpful for someone who has never built any kind of building. I watched a lot of YouTube videos, some after I should have. My location required building on 16 4×6 piers set in concrete as it sits on a hill. It is close to flush on a front corner and 20” at a rear corner. Getting those square was very challenging, and I almost did it.
I purchased materials as I went as there is no flat surface other than my back porch to store materials. It’s hard to estimate cost as multiple purchases, new tools, and deciding to pay to have it roofed all added up. I avoided most of the cost increases as I started mid May, 2020 and made my last big wood purchase in late July. All in, between 3 and 4K including shelving, lighting and a loft. I didn’t want a window for security purposes.
I had great help from my son, wife and sons future father-in-law. I also bought really high quality paint and painted most everything before it went up. I hate painting. I made plenty of mistakes, but I have a TON of great storage and learned a lot in the process. Very rewarding.
