This step by step diy project is about 12×20 small cabin trims plans. This is PART 3 of the hunting hutch project, where I show you everything you want to know about fitting the trims. Take a look over the rest of my woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration. Remember that you need to select the site for the shed with attention and that you have to comply with a few legal regulations.
When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

Fitting trims to the 12×20 cabin
Use 2×4 lumber for the top and bottom rails. Use 1×1 lumber for the cleats. Use 2×2 lumber for the balusters.
Fit the door into place. Make sure you use a door that fits inside the opening. Fit the railings to the porch. Toenail the rails to the posts after aligning the edges flush. Make sure the corners are square for a professional result. Next, fit the 1×4 trims to the front of the cabin. Use 2″ brad nails to secure the trims into place tightly.
Fit 1×4 trims to the back of the cabin. Use 2″ brad nails to secure the trims into place tightly.
Fit 1×4 trims to the sides of the cabin, using the same techniques described above. Fit the drip edges properly.
Taking care of the finishing touches will help you make the barn shed stand out. Cover the components with stain or paint so you protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the shed.
You need to check out PART 1 and 2 of the hunting hutch project, so you learn how to build the frame and the roof for the gable shed. Moreover, I strongly recommend you to check out the rest of the shed projects that I have on the blog.
