Drill Charging Station Plans

by Ovidiu

This step by step diy project is about drill charging station plans. I have designed this space and time saving drill charging station, so you can have all your power tools ready to go at full speed. This project only requires 3/4″ plywood and a small piece of 1×2 lumber (you can cut a strip of plywood, as well). See all my workshop projects HERE. Take a look over the rest of my woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration.

When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build a drill charging station

Building-the-sides

Building-the-sides

The first step of the project is to build the sides for the charging station. Use a circular saw to make the cuts to the 3/4″ plywood, after marking the cut lines. Use a jigsaw to cut out the hole for the outlet.

Attaching the back wall

Attaching the back wall

Use 3/4″ plywood for the back panel. Use a jig to make the pocket hole cuts along the sides of the panel. Fit the sides to the back panel, making sure the edges are flush and check if the corners are square. Add glue to the joints and insert 1 1/4″ screws.

Use 3/4″ plywood for the top shelves. Drill pocket holes along the sides and then secure them into place with 1 1/4″ screws. Make sure the corners are square and adjust the height at which you place the shelves. The top shelf is for storing boxes, while the lower shelf is for the drill chargers.

Last but not least, you need to attach the 3/4″ plywood piece for the bottom shelf. Drill pocket holes along the sides of the plywood piece and then lock it into place with 1 1/4″ screws.

Fit a piece of 1×2 lumber to the front of the shelf. Use glue and 2″ nails to secure it into place.

Make sure you fill the holes and dents with wood putty and then smooth the surface with sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint or stain over the components to enhance the look of the charging station and to protect them. You can secure the charging station to the studs with screws, or you can use a french cleat system.

Last but not least, you need to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes and the dents with wood putty and then smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. See all my workshop projects HERE.
