12×10 Shed Door and Trims Plans

This step by step diy project is about 12×10 shed doors plans. This is PART 3 of the storage shed project, where I show you everything you want to know about framing the double doors and fitting the trims. Take a look over the rest of my woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration. Remember that you need to select the site for the shed with attention and that you have to comply with a few legal regulations.

When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. Building 12×10 shed doors and trims

door-jambs

Fit the 2×4 jambs around the double door opening. Align the edges with attention and secure them into place with 2 1/2″ screws. Insert the screws every 8″ along the framing.

Building-the-doors

Build the door panels from T1-11 siding and the trims from 2×4 umber. Align the trims flush with the door panels and secure them together with glue and 2″ nails.

Door diagonal trims

Fit 2×4 decorative trims to the corners of the door, so you add more unique appeal. Use 2″ nails to secure the trims to the door.

Fitting the double doors

Fit the double doors to the front opening and align the edges flush. Use hinges to secure the doors to the jambs in a professional manner. Align the edges with attention. In addition, you need to install a latch to the doors so you can lock them together tightly. Install handles so you can open and close the double shed doors.

Side wall – Trims

Next, you have to fit the 1×4 trims to the sides of the shed. Align the trims with attention and use 2″ brad nails to secure the trims into place tightly. Leave no gaps between the trims for a professional result.

Back wall – Trims

Continue the project by fitting the trims to the back of the shed.

Front trims

And then fit the trims to the front of the gable storage shed.

Taking care of the finishing touches will help you make the barn shed stand out. Cover the components with stain or paint so you protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the shed.
