Children’s Playhouse with Porch Plans

by Ovidiu

This step by step diy project is about free children’s playhouse with porch plans. I have designed this 8×8 playhouse with front porch so you can put a smile on your kids faces and to keep them entertained for hours. This playhouse comes with a front door and side windows, but you can make a lot of adjustments, so it suits your needs. Take a look over the rest of my woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration.

When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

Childrens Playhouse – Free Playhouse

Building-the-floor-frame

Building-the-floor-frame

The first step of the project is to build the floor frame for the playhouse. Therefore, You need to cut all the joists from 2×4 lumber and lay them on a level surface. Drill pilot holes through the rim joists and insert 3 1/2″ screws in the perpendicular joists. Place the joists every 16″ on center and make sure the corners are square. Measure the diagonals and make adjustments until they are perfectly equal.

Fitting the skids

Fitting the skids

Choose the location for the playhouse and then level the ground thoroughly. Use a spirit level to make sure the surface is perfectly horizontal. Lay the 4×4 skids on the ground and then fit the floor frame. Use screws or rafter ties to secure the skids to the floor frame tightly.

Floor sheets

Floor sheets

Attach the 3/4″plywood sheets to the floor frame of the playhouse. Align the edges flush and then insert 1 5/8″ screws, every 8″ along the joists.

Build the back wall frame for the children’s playhouse from 2×2 lumber. Cut the components at the right dimensions and then drill pilot holes through the plates. Insert 2 1/2″ screws to secure the studs into place tightly, every 24″ on center.

Front-wall-frame

Continue the project by framing the front wall for the playhouse. Cut all the components from 2×2 lumber and lay them on a level surface. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the studs. You can easily adjust the size of the door opening, so it can suit your needs. Make sure the corners are square and check if the edges are flush.

Build the side walls for the playhouse from 2×2 lumber. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the studs. As you can notice in the plans, you have to frame the windows. You can adjust the size the windows to suit your needs.

Assembling the frame of the playhouse

Assembling the frame of the playhouse

Once you have assembled all the wall frames, you have to lock them into place. Therefore, lift the frames and secure them to the floor of the playhouse. Use a spirit level to plumb the wall frames and then drill pilot holes through the bottom plates. Insert 3 1/2″ screws into the floor.

Moreover, you need to lock the adjacent walls together tightly. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to secure the walls together tightly. Make sure the edges are flush and check if the corners are square.

Fit the 1/2″ or 3/4″ plywood sheets to the back of the playhouse. Align the edges flush and leave no gaps between the sheets. Afterwards, you have to insert 6d nails to lock the sheets into place tightly. Insert the nails, every 8″ along the framing.

Front wall - Exterior

Front wall – Exterior

Fit the exterior wall sheets to the front of the playhouse, as well. As you can easily notice in the plans, you need to make cuts so you can fit the sheets around the door opening.
