Building an indoor playhouse

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the frame of the front face. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to build the components out of 2×2 lumber. Take accurate measurements and cut the components at the right size, using a circular saw.

Cut both ends of the rafters at 60 degrees. cut the top of the studs at 30 degrees. Drill pilot holes and lock the components with 2 1/2″ galvanized screws.

The next step of the woodworking project is to lock the front face with the back face, as described in the diagram. In order to get a professional result, we recommend you to build the horizontal supports out of 2×2 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends and secure them to the frame with 2 1/2″ screws, after making sure the corners are square.

Continue the woodworking project by fitting the 3/4″ plywood panel to the back face of the indoor playhouse. Mark the cut lines on the plywood and get the job done with a circular saw. Smooth the cut edges with fine-grit sandpaper and remove the residues.

Drill pocket holes along the edges and fit the panel inside the frame. Leave no gaps between the components and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the frame. Add glue to enhance the bond of the joints.

In order to enhance the look of the indoor playhouse, we recommend you to attach 1×3 trims around the window opening. Take accurate measurements and get the job done with a jigsaw. Secure the trims to the panel using finishing nails and waterproof glue.

Afterwards, build the side walls out of 3/4″ plywood. Make a window opening to the center of the playhouse side wall. Adjust its size according to your needs. Drill pocket holes along the edges and secure the frame to the panel using 1 1/4″ screws.

Continue the project by fitting the trims around the side windows. Cut the trims at the right size and secure them to the panels using finishing nails and waterproof glue. Leave no gaps between the components.

In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to attach the roofing sheets to the structure. Therefore, you need to attach the 3/4″ plywood sheets to the structure. Cut the components at the right size and smooth the edges.

Top Tip: Center the two plywood pieces to the structure and secure them to the rafters with 1 1/4″ screws. Leave no gaps.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: If you want to enhance the look of the woodworking project and to protect the playhouse from decay, we recommend you to cover the components with paint or stain. Paint the roof of the playhouse for a neat appearance.
