This step by step diy project is about CPU cart plans. If you want to build a cart for your computer unit, we recommend you to pay attention to the instructions described in the diagram. Adjust the size of the components with great care and lock them together by using waterproof glue and galvanized screws following the instructions. Make sure the design of the cart matches the style of the rest of the bedroom furniture.
It is essential to choose the right materials before starting the construction and the assembly of the wooden cart. As you will see in the project, you need to choose durable lumber with a nice appearance, such as pine, cedar or redwood. Building a CPU cart
Building the frame of the cpu cart
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the frame of the CPU cart. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to cut the components out of 3/4″ plywood, after marking the cut lines on the sheets. Get the job done with a circular saw and smooth the cut edges using fine-grit sandpaper.
Drill pocket holes along the top and bottom edges of the vertical component and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the perpendicular components.
Installing the side support
Next, you have to fit the vertical supports to both sides of the CPU cart, as described in the diagram. Cut the components at the right size and smooth the edges with fine-grit sandpaper. Drill pocket holes along the top and bottom edges using a jig.
Top Tip: Fit the supports to the frame and make sure the edges are flush. Insert 1 1/4′ screws through the supports into the frame of the CPU and leave no gaps between the components. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess.
Fitting the back wall
Continue the project by fitting the back to the storage component. Cut the back out of 3/4″ plywood and drill pocket holes along the edges. Fit the panel into place and secure it to the sides by using 1 1/4″ screws and waterproof glue.
Top Tip: Work with attention and invest in high quality materials. Leave no gaps between the components and make sure the corners are square. The edges should be flush before inserting the screws into place.
Installing the partition
Next, fit the partition to the side storage compartment. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the partition and fit it to the middle of the opening. Use a spirit level to make sure it is perfectly plumb and secure to the frame by using 1 1/4″ screws. Add glue to the edges and make sure the corners are right-angled.
Fitting the shelves
In order to add storage space to the CPU cart, we recommend you to add several shelves made out of 3/4″ plywood. Cut the shelves at the right size and smooth the edges using sandpaper. Drill pocket holes along the side edges and secure them to the vertical components using 1 1/4″ screws.
Place the shelves equally-spaced and make sure the corners are right-angled. You can adjust the number of the shelves and the distance you leave between them.
Attaching the caster wheels
In order to get a professional result, we recommend you to fit caster wheels to the bottom of the CPU cart. Fit the caster wheels to the four corners of the bottom component and secure them into place by using galvanized screws.
Cpu cart plans
One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.
Top Tip: In order to protect the lumber from water damage, we recommend you to cover the components with several coats of paint. Place the cpu cart in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
