Fire Pit Bench Plans
Top Tip: Choose the most suitable design for your bench before starting the construction project in your workshop. If necessary, make several adjustments to the bench.
Building a firepit bench
The first step of the project is to build the four legs of the firepit bench. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to use 2×4 lumber for the legs. Mark the cut lines on the pieces of lumber and make the notches with a circular saw.
Top Tip: Make several cuts inside the marked area and remove the excess material with a chisel. Last but not least, smooth the surface with medium-grit sandpaper.
Continue the woodworking project by building the frame of the seat. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to build the components from 2×4 lumber.
Cut the components at the right size and always drill pilot holes before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. Check if the corners are right-angled before inserting the screws.
Attaching the legs to the bench frame is a straight forward job, as it requires basic woodworking skills. Plumb the legs, align them at both ends and lock them to the frame with galvanized screws. Pre-drill the legs to prevent the wood from splitting.
Fitting the slats to the frame of the fire pit bench is a quick process, as you just need to adjust the size of the slats and to fit them into place with screws. Drill pocket holes through the slats before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting.
It is essential to center the slats to the frame, otherwise you won’t get a symmetrical appearance. As you can notice in the plans, we recommend you to use 2×6 and 2×4 slats.
One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.
Top Tip: In order to protect the lumber from water damage, we recommend you to cover the components with several coats of paint. Place the porch bench in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
