Building a corner bench
Building the sides of the bench
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the sides frames for the corner bench. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to build the legs, the support and the horizontal brace out of 2×4 lumber.
Drill pocket holes at both ends of the brace after cutting them at 80 degrees. Center the brace to the legs and insert 2 1/2″ screws to create rigid joints. Drill pocket holes at the top of the legs and insert screws in the support.
Building the middle legs
Next, build the center support out of 2×4 lumber, using the information in the diagram. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the bottom brace and at both ends of the legs. Secure everything together using 2 1/2″ screws and waterproof glue.
Fitting the bottom supports
The next step of the woodworking project is to attach the 2×4 support to the structure, as described in the diagram. Cut one end of the braces at 45 degrees and drill pocket holes at both ends.
Top Tip: Fit the braces to the structure and secure them into place with 2 1/2″ screws. Add glue to the joints and make sure the legs are perfectly vertical, before inserting the screws.
Fitting the supports
Afterwards, you need to install the 2×4 supports to the top of the structure, in order to add strength to the bench. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and secure them to the top supports using 2 1/2″ screws. Add glue to the joints and make sure the surface is perfectly even.
Attaching the seat slats
In order to get the job done in a professional manner, you need to attach the seat slats to the supports. Therefore, cut the slats at the right size and angle and secure them to the support by using galvanized screws and waterproof glue. Leave 1/4″ between the components and drill pilot holes before inserting the galvanized screws.
Corner bench plans
One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.
