This step by step diy woodworking project is about modern headboard plans. If you want to build a modern but simple headboard for your bed, make sure you check out this project. Work with attention and don’t forget that a good planning will save you from many issues and it will keep the costs withing the total budget. Invest in high quality materials, such as pine, redwood or cedar. Drill pocket holes before inserting the galvanized screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. How to build a modern headboard

Headboard slats

Use 1×6 slats for the headboard panel. Take accurate measurements and cut the slats at the right dimensions. Smooth the edges with sandpaper.

Next, you need to lay the slats on a level surface. Align the edges and leave no gaps between the slats. Attach the 1×4 slats to the panel and leave no gaps between the components. Drill pilot holes through the supports and insert 1 5/8″ screws into the panel slats. Align the components for a professional result.

Smooth the edges with attention and make sure the headboard is locked together tightly.

Fit the headboard to the back of the bed frame. Plumb the headboard, drill pilot holes through the supports and insert 2″ screws into the bed frame.

Fill the holes with wood putty and let them dry out for a few hours. Smooth the surface with 100-200 grit sandpaper and remove the residues with a damp cloth.
