This step by step project is about simple shed plans. This article features detailed plans for building a 6×6 deer blind using common materials and tools. If you want to keep the costs under control and to create lots of storage space in your backyard, we recommend you to pay attention to the instructions described in the article. Work with attention and adjust the size and the design of the shed to match the style of your property.

There are several aspects that any person should take into account before starting the woodworking project. First of all, you need to use weather-resistant lumber, such as cedar, pine or redwood. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the components, if you want to lock them together tightly. In addition, add wood glue to the joints and check if the corners are right-angled. How to build a simple 6×6 shed

Building-the-frame-of-the-floor

The first step is to build the floor frame. We recommend you to cut the component at the right size, out of 2×4 or 2×6 lumber. Drill pilot holes through the perimeter joists and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the regular joists, after making sure the corners are square.

Place the joists equally-spaced and leave no gaps between the components. Attach the floor frame on three 4×4 skids or on a concrete slab, to protect the construction from moisture.

The next step of the woodworking project is to attach the 3/4″ plywood sheets to the wooden joists. Take accurate measurements and use a circular saw to get the job done in a professional manner. Smooth the edges with sandpaper and use tongue and groove plywood.

Lay the sheets to the joists and leave no gaps between the components. Drill pilot holes through the sheets and insert 1 1/4″ screws along the joists, every 8″. Repeat the process for the other plywood sheet.

Building the side walls is a straight-forward process, but you need to pay attention to several aspects, in order to get a professional result. Take accurate measurements and adjust the size of the 2×4 components at the right size.

Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the studs. Make sure the corners are square and frame a small window to let the light get inside the 6×6 shed.  

Building-the-back-wall

Continue the woodworking project by building the back wall for the simple shed. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to take accurate measurements and adjust the components to the right dimensions.

Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the studs. Check if the corners are square and leave no gaps between the components. Make sure you place the studs equally-spaced.

The next step of the outdoor project is to build the front wall for the shed. Use the instructions described above and leave enough space for fitting a door. Adjust the size of the door opening to suit your needs.

Fitting the side walls

Lift the side walls and lay them on the floor of the shed, as described in the diagram. Make sure the edges are flush with edges and drill pilot holes through the bottom plates, before inserting 2 1/2″ screws into the joists. It is essential to plumb the walls with a spirit level before inserting the screws, to get a professional result.

Use temporarily braces to secure the walls into place, before inserting the galvanized screws. Ask a friend to give you hand when moving the walls.  

Assembling the frame of the shed

Attach the front and back walls frames to the shed floor. We recommend you to lift the walls and to set them to the floor of the shed. Drill pilot holes through the bottom plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the joists.

Make sure the corners are square and the walls are perfectly plumb. In addition, we recommend you to secure the adjacent walls together, by inserting 2 1/2″ screws. Use temporarily braces before inserting the screws.

Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the holes with wood putty and let the compound to dry out for several hours. Smooth the surface with medium-grit sandpaper along the wood grain.
